Two ways of reed switch.
Usually, there are two ways to attract the dry reed of the reed switch: using the basic operation condition of the permanent magnet reed switch under the magnetic field generated by the permanent magnet, the two reeds are of opposite polarity, which produces enough suction between the two reeds to contact each other, and using the external coil as shown in the right figure: place the reed switch at the central axis of the coil, where the magnetic field is the strongest, and the two dry reeds are of opposite polarity, which produces enough suction between the two reeds to contact each other.
When a permanent magnet is close to the reed switch, the two reeds will be magnetized into different polarities that can attract each other. When the magnetic field is large enough, the two reeds can generate enough attractive force to contact each other.
Dry reeds are tempered to eliminate remanence, so when the magnetic field recedes, the magnetic field on the dry reeds disappears.
If there is any residual magnetic force on the dry reed, the characteristics of the dry reed switch will change. In the manufacturing process, it is very important to have proper process and annealing treatment.
Accord to this characteristic of that reed switch, the reed switch can be made into a switching component with very small size and volume, and has very fast switching speed and excellent reliability. The orientation and direction of the permanent magnet determine when and how many times the switch is turned on and off.
